How To Make Jamaican Rice and Peas || Vegan Rice and Peas || Mummy P Kitchen

Let’s get cooking – I’m going to you how I make the REAL, FLAVOURFUL, JAMAICAN RICE AND PEAS!
It’s tasty, moist and can even be eaten on its own…that is how good it is!! πŸ˜‹
Alsl perfect for your plant base diet and your vegan diet.
Can be served as, chicken and rice and peas; oxtail and rice and peas, jerk chicken and rice and peas; brown stew fish and rice and peas – so many ways it can be used as a side dish!

All of the ingredients I use and the method are below.

Authentic, Yummy Jamaican Rice and Peas Recipe

1 1/2 cup dry red kidney beans
8 cups of water
3 cloves of garlic
1 tsp all purpose seasoning
1 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp salt
1/4 red pepper
1/4 yellow pepper
1 scotch bonnet
3 spring onions
6 pimento seed
8 sprigs of thyme
1/2 can of coconut milk

Cook for 45 minutes on a medium flame.
Ensure that the pot cover is not fully closed or else it will boil over!


2 1/2 cup rice ( wash until water is clear)
1 cup of water after you add the rice

Add rice and cook for approx 20 minutes.
Again, ensure that the pot cover is not fully closed or else it will boil over!
Reduce the flame to very low after 5 minutes and then cover the pot completely.

Top tips
– make sure to take out the scotch bonnet before you add the rice. Because if it burst, it will be a real hot hot heat in your rice and peas πŸ™‚
– check rice with a fork not a spoon. The fork ensure the rice is still separated and not mashed

– If your rice isn’t fully cooked, just add a little amount of water, keep the flame to very low and cover the pot and let it simmer for another 5 minutes.
